About us

Welcome to the Orthodox Presbyterian Church of Franklin Square

Every Sunday we come together as God’s chosen people, to honor Him by worshiping Him as His church. We look forward to you joining us!

What to expect on Sunday

Worship service

Our worship service includes the reading and faithful preaching of God’s Word, prayers to God our Father, and the singing of Psalms and hymns, giving all honor and glory to our Triune God.

The Lord’s Supper

The sacrament of the Lord’s Supper is celebrated weekly as part of our worship service. This is a meal for believers who are trusting in Christ alone for salvation, are members of His Church, and are seeking to turn from sin, walking in obedience to Him. If these things are true of you, you are invited to join the feast at the Lord’s table.

Fellowship and Sunday School

Following our worship service we have a time of fellowship with coffee and refreshments. We invite you to stay so that we can get to know you. After fellowship we have Sunday School for all ages: a class each week for adults, and classes for children from Pre-K through High School.

Offering

As a guest you are not expected to give an offering, but you certainly may if led to do so. Giving is an important part of our worship: we honor God by putting Him first, giving back to Him a portion of what He has so generously provided for us. It also keeps us from worshiping our possessions in the place of God.

What we believe

A biblical and confessional church

We are a Christian church

We believe that the Bible, comprising the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments, is inspired by God, inerrant as originally given by the Holy Spirit through human authors, and is the only way we know the truth about God, about our sin, and about the way of deliverance from sin and death through Jesus Christ.

We believe in one God who is three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the second person of the Trinity, and that He became man and was born of the virgin Mary. He lived, died, rose from the dead, and ascended to heaven, where He is alive and at work, reigning as King to save His people from their sins. He is the way, the truth, and the life. He is our only hope in life and death.

We believe and hold to the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed as the two earliest confessions of the historic Christian faith.

We are a Protestant church

We hold to a Reformed understanding of Scripture, which came from the Protestant Reformation that separated from the Roman Catholic Church in the 1500s.

To be Reformed means we follow the Protestant understanding of Scripture, which alone teaches that we are saved by grace, through faith in Jesus Christ, to the glory of God alone. It is also to hold to a historic understanding of the Christian faith, as summarized in the creeds and confessions developed throughout history.

We believe there are only two sacraments: Baptism (of whole households in which at least one parent is a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ), and the Lord’s Supper (at which those who participate in faith genuinely feast on the Lord Jesus Christ through the presence of the Holy Spirit).

We are a Presbyterian church

Presbyterianism refers to the way the church is governed. The Church is those who profess faith in Christ, together with their children, and are members of local churches. These members are overseen by a group of elders who lead and rule as a Session. Among the elders, some are set apart as pastors, teachers, or evangelists; these we call ministers.

The local church joins with the churches of its region in a presbytery, and the presbytery takes part in the wider denomination at a General Assembly.

We believe the biblical doctrines taught and summarized in the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms, as adopted by the Orthodox Presbyterian Church.

We are an Orthodox Presbyterian church

The word orthodox means “straight teaching.” You can be sure that an Orthodox Presbyterian Church faithfully proclaims and teaches God’s word, the Bible.

Formed in 1936, the Orthodox Presbyterian Church is a denomination that has led the way in defending and proclaiming historic Christianity. You can learn more about its history at opc.org.

As a local congregation of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church, we participate joyfully in its works of Christian Education, Home Missions, and Foreign Missions: our share of the Great Commission.

Pastor David Garrett

“I was born and raised in West Sayville, New York. I am grateful to have grown up in a Christian home and have known Christ my entire life. I am married to my lovely wife, Hope, and have been blessed with two sons, Calvin and Peter.

Before attending seminary, I served as a youth director at an OPC church in Michigan. I graduated from Westminster Theological Seminary in 2023. In 2025, I was called to be the pastor of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Franklin Square, New York.

I enjoy time with family and friends, spending time at the beach or spending a day in New York City, watching hockey and baseball, and I enjoy a good Dutch apple pie!”
